Jake

Picture
While away on vacation, one of our volunteers in the south received a distraught message from her friend in rural Mississippi.  It seems someone dumped a few dogs on her property and she heard the neighbor shooting at them while they were wandering.  One of the dogs never returned so we can only imagine what happened.   Her friend was frantic about saving this boy's life so our volunteer, Heather, put her vacation aside to make sure our rescue could save Jake!

Heather shares, "He’s beautiful and super friendly.  Jake puts his paw up gently when he’d like attention or another treat.  It makes me want to swoon!  Jake’s good in the car and seems great with other dogs but has no history with cats.  Jake loves the water -he just sits in a pond and doesn’t swim so much - just wants to cool off.  He’s semi interested in toys but didn’t retrieve them when I tossed them.  He's playful and wants to please people.  Oh and he loves rawhide chewies."  Jake is smart and eager to please and will quickly learn house rules with a little consistent training and guidance.  He is not to be missed!!

Jake is estimated to be about 4 years old and weighs 101 lbs.  He is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, is heartworm negative, and has no known health issues. He received a Proheart 6 injection so he will not need any additional heartworm preventative for 6 months.  If you are ready for lots of love and devotion, this Chocolate Lab is your boy!

Adoptable - Courtesy Post - Ginger

"My name is Ginger and I am a lucky girl.  Good Samaritans found me after I had a litter of puppies.  I was emaciated and was wandering around their neighborhood in early December.  Luckily they invited me in, fed me, and gave me a warm bed.  They considered keeping me, but they already had two forever dogs.  They tried to find my owner when they took me to a vet for a checkup but I was not micro-chipped.   But maybe that was my lucky day because my former people didn't take very good care of me.

For more than a month the kind people tried to find a rescue group to take me as all shelters and rescues were full.  Then came the 8 inch snow storm in northwest Florida in January - CRAZY, right?   Once again they called to see if there was room there, but there was not.  One shelter even told them to put me back out on the street!   Thankfully, the kind folks housed me through the storm but were going out of town within a week.  Then through the rescue grapevine, I found a temporary foster home where I am now living.

They take real good care of me and I'm gaining much-needed weight!   I am now up-to-date on my vaccinations, spayed, and believe it or not, I am heartworm negative!  My fur is coming back and I am feeling so much better!  I am a pitty mix and approximately 7 years young with a spring in my step.  I weigh about 45 lbs now and I might have some brindle coloring...time will tell.  I am the best snuggler and napper.  I do not chew any inappropriate items or try to jump or dig under the fence.  I am almost fully house-trained.   We are working on leash walking and I will soon be the perfect companion.  We don't know how I am with other dogs or cats, but I do like to chase squirrels; I like them so much I hop and run at the same time.  My favorite spot will be sitting and sleeping beside you...ummmm....unless I am eating.  I am good at that too!"

Ginger is a COURTESY POST and is not a J&L dog.  Please contact Cheryl at 850-529-3182 (call/text) for more information.  There is a $200 adoption fee for Ginger who comes fully vetted!

Through the Eyes of a Dog

An anonymous poet wrote: “If you can start the day without caffeine; if you can get going without pep pills; if you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains; if you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles; if you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it; if you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time; if you can forgive a friend’s lack of consideration; if you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you, when, through no fault of your own, something goes wrong; if you can take criticism and blame without resentment; if you can ignore a friend’s limited education and never correct him; if you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend; if you can face the world without lies and deceit; if you can conquer tension without medical help; if you can relax without liquor; if you can sleep without the aid of drugs; if you can honestly say that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed or color, religion or politics; then, my friend, you’re almost as good as your dog.”
